RECIPE |Homemade Creamy Keto Tomato Sauce

Trust me, I buy jarred pasta sauces all the time. They are easy and usually a crowd-pleaser. But they can have added sugars, sodium and even worse if they are ‘creamy’ sauces. So why not whip up your own (at least every once in a while?)

I wanted an easy sauce that I could meal-prep ahead of time and use for dinner later in the week. This recipe is easy, but it does require some simmer time, so don’t expect to whip this up after a long day and have dinner on the table in 30 minutes…. UNLESS you’ve made it ahead of time!

I decided to try out Nancy’s Probiotic Cream Cheese for the creamy element in this recipe to up the fat content and also add some additional probiotic bacteria to our diets. (I can’t get my husband to take a probiotic pill for the life of me, so I have to sneak it in where I can!)

Enjoy this creamy tomato sauce on your pastas (Banza Chickpea Pasta is our favorite), as a saute for meats or on some zoodles! Since this is more of a keto style pasta sauce with the increased fat content, we ate it over some spinach, Banza chickpea pasta and sauteed butter shrimp.

I added it to a meal kit jar so it was ready to enjoy for dinner!
Jar packing tip: place the sauce in first, then some cheese, then fresh spinach and lastly the cooked pasta

Yields5 Servings
Prep Time5 minsCook Time50 minsTotal Time55 mins

 3 tbsp avocado oil
 ½ cup chopped white onion
3 cans petite diced tomatoes (not drained)
 2 tbsp organic tomato paste
1 tbsp crushed red pepper flakes
 1 tbsp onion powder
 1 tbsp course sea salt
 1 tbsp dried parsley
1 tbsp Primal Palate Amore Seasoning
1 large clove roasted garlic (I used elephant garlic - it has HUGE cloves)
½ cup Nancy's Organic Probiotic Cream Cheese

1

In a 6-quart saute pan with a lid over medium heat, add in the avocado oil and chopped onion. Saute the onion until tender.

2

Now, dump in the cans of crushed tomatoes, undrained.

3

Immediately following, add in the tomato paste, crushed red pepper flakes, onion powder, salt & Primal Palate Amore seasoning (if you don't have this seasoning, a traditional Italian seasoning blend will do just great). Stir it all together until thoroughly combined. Then add in your roasted clove of garlic. No need to chop it up as it will get blended in a couple steps.

4

Bring the sauce to a simmer, cover and allow to simmer for 30 minutes on medium-low heat. You will need to occasionally stir the sauce.

5

Now you will remove the sauce from the heat (beware of any bubbling going on before removing the lid). Once it stops bubbling, add it into a Vitamix, blender or use an emulsion blender if you have one. Blend up the sauce until smooth.

6

Now you'll add the smooth, blended sauce back into your pan. Place it back on low heat and stir in the Nancy's Probiotic Cream Cheese (or just regular full fat cream cheese if you prefer no extra healthy gut probiotics). Once it has melted into the sauce, allow it to simmer on low for another 20 minutes.
